day 1 Maun

Start your journey at Greys Eden Sanctuary, a peaceful and welcoming retreat set on the banks of the Thamalakane River. Surrounded by riverine forest and frequented by a variety of birdlife, it provides the perfect place to relax and unwind after your journey, while offering a gentle introduction to Botswana’s natural beauty ahead of your safari adventure.

day 2-4 Makgadikgadi Salt Pans

A short light aircraft flight takes you to your authentic camp skirting the magnificent Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the second largest in the world after Uyuni in Bolivia. During the Green Season the region bursts into life as migratory birds, most notably huge flocks of flamingos, return to the flooded pans, while on land the longest mammal migration in the world brings as many 30,000 Zebra and other ungulates to the pans to birth their young, with predators often in hot pursuit. read more +

In contrast, the Dry Season makes it possible to venture out on the salt flats by 4X4 or on guided quad bike adventures, or even on horseback (riding experience necessary). You can even quad bike to a Baobab studded island and spend a magical night under the stars at a remote fly-camp (additional cost).

‘All Year Round’ highlights of the Makgadikgadi include bush walks with indigenous hunter/gatherers from nearby tribes as well as the chance to see a wild but habituated mob of Meerkats. If you sit very still they may even use you as a look-out post. These funny creatures may not be at the top of your safari viewing list, but after a close encounter like this, they will be a highlight of your holiday.

day 5-7 Okavango Delta

From the salt pans, you will journey into the lush waterways of the Okavango Delta, where Cha Cha Metsi offers an intimate and immersive safari experience in the lower reaches of this iconic ecosystem. Surrounded by a mosaic of floodplains, channels and islands, this is a region rich in wildlife and ever-changing scenery. read more +

During the Green Season water levels in this area are low so game activities will be land based, but the Lower Okavango is known for excellent year round game viewing.

In the Dry Season, the channels fill with water, and the beauty of the Delta has to be seen to be believed. Game viewing is excellent both on land and by water and almost all camps and lodges offer mokoro safari's, guided traditional pole driven canoes which traverse the narrow channels created by hippos and elephants.

day 8-10 Private Kwara Reserve

No Botswana Safari would be complete without including some water based activities in the Okavango Delta. Another thrilling light aircraft flight will take you to a region in the Upper Delta with year round water. Counter-intuitively, the Green Season is when water levels in the Delta are at their lowest, so we choose from a handful of special camps set along the deeper channels with year round water, allowing for water based activities as well as game drives. Many species birth their young during this season and bird life is also excellent at this time of year. read more +

In the Dry Season the shallow channels fill up and transform the landscape. Mokoro rides and walking safari’s are excellent at this time of year.

On Day 10 your holiday concludes with a final light aircraft transfer back to Maun to meet your international connection.
