In contrast to its more famous cousin, lesser known Samburu National Reserve is known for arid climate, striking mountain scenery and rare species not found elsewhere in Kenya, or in some cases, anywhere else in Africa. The ‘Samburu Special Five’ consists of the Beisa oryx, the gerenuk, the Somali ostrich, the Grevy’s zebra, and reticulated giraffe. See these amazing creatures by conventional game drive, or embark on exciting bush walks.
The area is also home to the Samburu People. These semi-nomadic tribes, known for their bright clothing, intricate jewellery and rich heritage, have managed to cling on to their traditional way of life more so than even the Masaai. Engaging with a local community here is an experience not to be missed.
